Next week I'd like to finalize the floor plan for the presentation. So far, we have the waiting room and doctors office spaces filled out, but there's that space in the back that we have free for something. Let's be creative in thinking how we could use that space to help with presenting the information.
Furthermore, each of you need to figure out what you want your doctor's office to look like. We talked about possible poster type materials that a doctor might have in their office. Reminder, if you need to print something out in color, and don't have a color printer at home, post the image as a comment here, and I'll print it at home and bring in.
How are you going to present the material? So far, we have that you're going to be doing this in a doctors office type setting, and you've each expressed an interest in wearing white doctors' coats, but what about the actual presentation of materials?
Waiting room: Don't forget, each person should get at least one, hopefully more, articles to print out for the waiting room area. Thinking about this after you left, I think they should be current articles, meaning coming in the last 2 months. Use http://news.google.com for articles if you're stumped. There's an option, after you hit search, to filter the results to articles within certain time frame.

Downloading YouTube videos
We talked about playing videos for the presentation. Since the School District of Philadelphia's internet firewall prevents youtube, or any streaming, you would have to convert the video for download first.

Just an FYI, just to make sure there isn't a problem during the day of the presentation-like, say the internet doesn't work at school that day-try downloading the file ahead of time and putting it on a flash drive or burning to a CD.

Homework for next week-Presentation Room
We need to think about what this presentation will look like, both when you walk in the door to see the overall presentation of all of the MG students, but for each individual person's station, also.
Next week, we'll try to figure out what this will look like as a whole. The sooner we figure this out, the better prepared we can be for for the presentation. If there is anything that we need to get for the presentation-white lab coats, gloves, posters made, etc-we need to know long enough ahead of time to make sure we can get them. Ms. Shaw-Carpenter has extended an invitation to help us acquire whatever she can help us with.
Also, something to think about-will the people attending be participating, or just listening during this presentation? Anytime someone can actively participate in something, they will more likely get a better experience out of it. Think of something that a fellow student or adult could do while they visit your station. It could be as simple as trying to use an inhaler if they haven't before (those must be cleaned, though!), munch on cookies that are made from the recipe that is included with the comic book or something else-everyone loves free food.
Also, since this is the first post-if you have ideas and want to post them as a comment on this post, or any other posts that will be coming up in the future, please feel free! I didn't start this just as a way to remind you of assignments, let's try to use this as a way to interact outside of the small amount of time we get each week that is set aside to get work done. I'm an art person, I know that creativity doesn't always happen when a brainstorming activity is happening in class. Post comments as a way to archive any good, or even bad, ideas. Your idea, no matter how small or large you may think it is, just might help someone else think up something, too.
